Cardiovascular disease is our nation’s No. 1 killer. Physical inactivity significantly increases the risk of heart disease and stroke. Seventy percent of Americans don’t get enough exercise, blaming lack of time and lack of motivation. Ignoring fitness and health increases chances for disease.
The Mississippi River run was started to evoke interest in fitness activities for families. The rise of obesity, unhealthy eating habits and physical inactivity has prompted the U.S. Surgeon General to warn that we may see the first generation in 100 years with a “shorter lifespan then their parents.”
